Nature of Cause: Carrying on a business on Creswick Gold Field without a business license.
Decision: Fined 1/- and 7/6 costs.

CAUSE LIST
The following persons were charged with carrying on business on the Creswick gold-fields without a license:- Thomas QUINN, Abraham MILNER, Robert ORR, BOLGER (Red Streak,) Wm. JONES, and Amos SHOEMACK.
Mr Burton appeared for Mr Quinn, and objected to an informality in the summons.
The Bench allowed the charge to be amended.
Defendant stated in defence that he had taken out a brewer's license, and was not aware that an additional occupation license was required.
Fined 1s and 6s costs.
A similar fine, with costs, was imposed on the other defendants. Charges of the same nature against James FEW and John ASHWORTH were dismissed.

Long Point, (where horses can be left),
or to GEORGE SPARK, on the Farm.
 For Sale, Saddle Horses and Horses suit-
able for whims and puddling machines.

(From Friday 10 May 1861 to Tuesday 2 Jul 1861 the same advertisement appeared 16 times in the Creswick & Clunes Advertiser on page 3 or 4. The newspaper was published every Tuesday and Friday. Price 6d.
George SPARK aged abt 15 yrs in 1861 was the younger brother of John SPARK who married Catherine SHUMACK, daughter of Amos.)

brought by Cheney.)
(In 1859 Cheney Bros of Cambridge Street, Creswick were importers of Boots and Shoes. Other advertisements were for groceries such as honey and golden syrup, tubs of mackeral and for the sale of corn sacks and bluestone for farmers. Therefore they were grocers and hardware merchants. On 10 May 1861 there was an advertiserment for J.S. Cheney (late Cheney Bros.) selling garden seeds, kerosene, oil lamps and glasses. grocers and suppliers of hardware.)
