Holly lived at 315 Ligar Street with her spinster aunt, Annie COMMONS (1864-1931).
Holly had a son born out of wedlock, William Henry HENNESSEY, known as 'Fred'. He never married and died aged 77 yrs, crem 5 Oct 2006 Ballarat New Cemetery. 'Fred' was in possession of two family bibles. One was a gift to Annie COMMONS on her 45th birthday from her mother Elizabeth Jane ms BARKLA and the other belonged to Mary Ann ms HOBBA, mother of Elizabeth Jane COMMONS ms BARKLA. These bibles were given to 'Fred' HENNESSEY's carer. In May 2008 they were recovered from Ballarat solicitor Morrow & Morrow, 45 Lydiard Street, by Graeme MARTIN, gr gr grandson of Elizabeth Jane BARKLA COMMONS and grandson of Sarah Myrtle HUTCHINS ms COMMONS (below).

Oliver NEWLAND enlisted in the AIF on 3 Oct 1914. He served with the 8th Battalion at Gallipoli and transferred to the 58th in Egypt. In a letter he wrote to his father which was published in the Ballarat Courier on 12 Sep 1916, Pte NEWLAND said from the trenches in France that "there are 200 Ballarat boys in the one company here." Following gunshot wounds incurred on 11 Mar 1917, NEWLAND was evacuated to England, repatriated to Australia and discharged as medically unfit on 22 Feb 1918.
