Buried 29 Jun 1871 at Ballarat Cemetery, Undertaker William HEARD, Witnesses: Walter E SMYTHE and William JENKINS. Deceased was born Whittington, Worcestershire, England, lived 14 years in Victoria. These children are not listed in the Victorian Children's Registers and were therefore not made wards of the state. It is thought that Frances Ann (sister of Susannah) and Thomas GILES helped raise this young family of their neices and nephews. (Pam Gurney)

So this couple would have arrived in Victoria in 1857. I do not have the shipping but it would seem that they cannot be located together and therefore these entries should be investigated:

JONES Susanna age 20 arr 20 SEP 1857 on the Ellen Stuart [f131 p8] (b abt 1837) Also on this ship was an Allan JONES age 18, listed with a Mrs Jane JONES age 29 and children James 4, Emily 2 and an infant aged 1. It is possible that Susanna's husband Charles JONES was also on this voyage working his passage as crew and therefore not listed as a passenger.

Charles JONES a Labourer, was living in Eureka Street, Ballarat East in 1865-66. The directory entry is for Charles WORCESTERSHIRE but this is an obvious error. There are no entries for this surname in the Victorian BDM Index. Charles JONES was from Worcestershire and he was living two doors from Edward MYLREA (listed as MYBREA) who was the Guardian of Alice Jane JONES (d/o Charles) at her marriage aged 18 in 1879. Perhaps Charles was indisposed or was not able to be present to give his consent to this marriage of a minor.

Family members thought that Charles JONES was living with his son Harry in 1890 (at 40 Steinfeld Street) then left Victoria either for England or Queensland.
