Ballarat Directories
1862 Birtchnell's Ballarat Directory (no Mylrea or like, not a resident of Eureka Street)
1865-66 Dicker Ballarat Directory: MYLIER Edward, Carter, Eureka Street, Ballarat East (p103) In the Street Index (p31) Edward MYBREA (MYLREA) is shown as living two doors from Charles JONES. This connection as neighbours seems to be the only explanation for Edward MYLREA to be the Guardian of Alice Jane JONES in 1879.
1875 Niven Ballarat Directory: MYLREA Edward, Laborer, Eureka Street, Ballarat (p51)
1878 Ballarat Rate Roll (no Mylrea)
1894 Webb's Ballarat Directory: MYLREA J, Doveton Street North, Ballarat, MYLREA J, Loch Avenue, Ballarat (p145)
1896-97 Sands & McDougall's Ballarat Directory: MYLREA John, Coal and wood merchant, Railway siding, Doveton Street North, Ballarat, private residence Loch Avenue (p57)

1881 to Williamstown
The family moved from Ballarat to Williamstown in 1881 for 'reasons of employment'. (AW)

In a letter drafted on 18 January 1897 by Belle for her father, it states he had been apprenticed for 7 years to Pooleys & Son of Manchester Street Liverpool as a weighing machinist. Edward's elder brother Thomas had also worked as an iron moulder and foreman for the same company.
Following his death on 26 September 1905, his death certificate records him as "scalemaker" and an obituary in The Chronicle describes him as "a colonist of 50 years ... a resident of Williamstown for 24 years and was in the employ of the Town Council for 15 years ... a member of 43 years standing of the M.U.I.O.O.F." (Could the connection with the Jones family be Masonic?) (Andree Wright)
