In Fremantle Mary Ann WADDELL was a prominent member of the Labor Movement, suffragette, charity worker and Justice of the Peace. obituary. Her estate, which was valued at more than a thousand pounds, was left to her husband and her brothers and sisters. As six of the seven were deceased their share went to their children so there were about 40 relatives named in her probate papers. (provided by Jeanette Lee)

Following the death of Mary Ann Waddell solicitors, Messrs Forman & Slattery, made a search at the Supreme Court Perth under the Adoption of Children Act but no order could be found under which Mary Ann Waddell or her husband William Thomas Waddell ever legally adopted the child. They concluded that the child now known as William Alexander Waddell is not a child of the deceased and is not one of the next of kin and therefore would not be a beneficiary of her estate.
