Passengers No 47, 48, 49 on the Victory, John GODDARD, Wheelwright, aged 27, Mrs Maria aged 22 yrs and James aged between 1 and 7 yrs, all born Hertford, C of E, both could Read and Write. The Victory sailed from Plymouth on 5 Sep 1852 and arrived on Christmas Eve 24 Dec 1852 at Geelong after a voyage of 110 days. It was a 5 yr-old ship of 579 tons owned by Fenwick & Co of London, captained by 37 yr-old William VAGG who held a 2nd class master's certificate. The ship was under government charter to bring assisted immigrants to the Colony of Victoria and carried very little cargo.
The Disposal List for the Victory shows that John and Maria GODDARD left the ship on their own account to find work in Geelong.
