Mary Ann PRICE b 15 Feb 1838 Cwrm Avon, Trevethin, Pontypool, Monmouth, England d/o Charles PRICE/Ann HARRIS. (Mary Ann always believed her birthday to be 20 Jan but Jean Crowther has a copy of her Somerset House birth certificate. She was the daughter of Charles Price and Ann Harris and is found with them in the 1841 and 1851 census of Trevethin but the family moved to Machen before she met Jesse.) (JC)

Emigration to USA 1866
Jesse, Mary Ann and their six-week old son, Jesse Jnr, emigrated to America on the ship John Bright out of Liverpool 30 April 1866. Cost £4 6s for adults, 20s for infant. They crossed the plains in the 'Henry Chipman' Company leaving from Wyoming Nebraska on 13 July 1866 and arriving 15 Sep 1866 in the Salt Lake Valley. They settled in Lehi about 30 miles south of Salt Lake City and lived there the rest of their lives. [British Mission Emigration Records #6184]
George COMER and his wife Mary Ann had emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1865 but joined her brother Jesse and Mary Ann somewhere before Nebraska and were in the same pioneer company. They also settled in Lehi where the two families were life-long friends (George COMER was Jesse's childhood friend from Pensford). (JC)

1. Infant son born and died at birth in Machen in 1862, birth or death not recorded. Grandmother of Jean Crowther thought he would have been named Jesse (JC)

2. Infant son born and died at birth in Machen in 1864, birth or death not recorded, also would have been named Jesse. When Jean Crowther's grandmother visited Machen in the late 1920s she took a photo of an area in the back of the cemetery of St John the Baptist Church in Machen with the inscription 'my two baby brothers are buried here'. Their parent's tombstone in the Lehi Cemetery lists their births and deaths (JC)

More information from Jean Crowther:
The loss of her first four sons greatly impacted Mary Ann's life. Grandmother said she had a lovely voice and sang solos and in choirs in castles, churches and cathedrals in Wales but after her four babies died she seldom sang.
