Extracts from letter about this family written by 19 year old Emily Hardwell from Pensford 8 Sep 1876 to her Uncle, Aunt and cousins. (George and Melinda Smith in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia)
Your brother James' wife is gone to Bath to live and they are doing very well. The oldest daughter is keeping an eating house and Aunt Ann is living with her. Address: 2 Lower Borough Walls, Bath.
The next is married to a very good tradesman, a plumber & gasfitter, and I believe he is a very good husband.
The next girl is about my age. She is a dressmaker.
The oldest son is married. He is a mason.
The next son is a blacksmith. So you see dear Uncle they are all doing very well which we are glad of. (letter held by Delcie Barlow, transcript from Wayne Sinclair)
