In the Rylston District Mr Joseph SHUMACK paid 0.10.0 shillings to the Patriotic Fund [Sydney Morning Herald (NSW) 28 June 1855 p 8] It would seem that between this date and that of the birth of his 4th child on 18 July 1855, Joseph made the change in the spelling of his name to SHEUMACK. He was the only one of the seven brothers to consistently use this spelling.
