John BURRELL was a mining engineer who became manager of a tin mine at Epoh near Kuala Lumpur in Malaya. During WW2 as a member of the British Citizens Military Forces he was taken Prisoner-of-War by the Japanese. For three and a half years he was in Changi Prison and on the Burma Railway. At the fall of Singapore in January 1941 Mabel, her two daughters and 4 month old baby son were evacuated to Melbourne, Australia on the ship Orion. They lived with Scots, Beatrice and 'Dadda' MURRAY in Manifold Heights, Geelong, Victoria. After the war John and Mabel were reunited in Edinburgh, Scotland. Mabel and the children returned to Geelong for the children's education. John resumed tin mining in Malayasia with six months leave every three years and finally retired to Geelong.

The status of burgh was abolished in 1975 and Musselburgh became part of the East Lothian District in the Lothian Region. In 1996 Musselburgh became part of the East Lothian modern council area. Mabel and her stepsisters, Eva and Ina lived at 120 High Street, Musselburgh and all attended St Peter's Anglican School at Goose Green in Mussleburgh.

William George POTTS (known as Bill) b 27 Jan 1907 Melrose, Berwickshire, Scotland, son of Mrs RICHARDSON (who had remarried) and stepson of Mr RICHARDSON who was Grieve (Estate Manager) of 'Housebyers' a manor house facing the Eildon Hills at (Milborne?) Melrose.
Bill served an apprenticeship as a surveyor and was Under Manager at Niddrie Colliery. Address in 1958 was 16 Niddrie Cottages, District of Newington, Edinburgh.

1. Mabel Elizabeth POTTS (known as Helen) b ~1928 prob Edinburgh m Alec (or Alex) STEIN, an engineer, lived Newcastle, England. Alec was in a wheelchair suffering from multiple sclerosis when Mabel died abt 2003 (Betty Stevenson). Alec is now also deceased. (One son)
2. Isobel Mary POTTS b 1 May 1930 Edinburgh m 1951 at Portobello, Midlothian, Scotland, Donald BRITTON occ Dancer with Saddlers Wells Ballet Company.
In 1947 Isobel won a scholarship to Saddlers Wells Ballet Company. Her stage name was Maureen BRUCE. They had one son who was raised by his grandmother, Mrs Potts, while his parents toured with the ballet company. Donald danced the lead in 'Pineapple Poll' with the Royal Ballet on tour in Australia in the 1950s. They were separated by then, later divorced, both remarried, spouses names unknown.
