Supposed Dundee Love Tragedy
A Lochee young man who had been discarded by his sweetheart in favour of another, threatened to take his life, so keely did he feel his misfortune. He left home last week for the purpose of spending a holiday in the South. The body of a man about thirty years of age, 6 foot in height, dressed in a brownish lounge suit, brown leather lacing tacketed boots, a double collar and a heavy silk tie, was discovered by three boys on the sea beach at Eastfield, Joppa, yesterday morning. This description corresponds with the appearance, when he left home, of the Lochee man, whose mother was informed of the occurence, and leaves for Portobello to-day to ascertain whether or not the body is that of her son.

Dundee man's fate
Says he is broken-hearted
"Dear Mother, - this is the last news you will get from me. - your broken-hearted son, Jim"
This was the sad note which Mrs Stewart, Dalmeny Place, 11 Rosebery Street, Dundee, received from her son a week ago. At the same time Mrs Williamson, Mrs Stewart's daughter received a note in the following terms:- "Dear Lizzie - this is the last you will hear from me. I have said 'good-bye' to uncle. Be good to Mother - your broken-hearted brother, Jim"
"Jim" was James Duncan Stewart (29), a hacklemaker, whose body, as reported in yesterday's 'Dundee Advertiser', was washed ashore at Eastfield Beach, Portobello, on Wednesday morning, and was identified yesterday. He was greatly depressed as the result of a love disappointment, and on the evening of July 18 told his mother that he was to end his life. Mrs Stewart was shocked at the statement, and remonstrated with him. Ultimately she advised her son to spend a few days with some friends at Bonnyrigg, and he acquiesced in the arrangement. He left early on the morning of the 19th with the intention of proceeding to Bonnyrigg. Mrs Stewart wrote requesting to be informed when her son arrived. No reply was forthcoming, and getting alarmed she wired. The answer was - "Jim has not arrived", and then came the tragic letter from Portobello, the last thing that was heard of him until his body was discovered. He is described by neighbours as being an exemplary young man, of a quiet retiring disposition, steady and regular in his habits, and a dutiful son in every way.
