Captain William Palmer THORNE'S medals were donated to the Regimental Depot in 1972 by Mrs Willis of Scotby near Carlisle. In 1973 Captain William Palmer Thorne's medals were re-accessioned when The Border Regiment Military Museum was re-opened on its present site at Carlisle Castle, Cumbria, England.
Gertrude Willis ms Mason was a grand daughter of Captain Thorne. She was one of four daughters of Gertrude Mary Thorne (1887-1965) and John Mason.
