Obituary George ROBERTS 1838-1917
Creswick Advertiser 6 Feb 1917 p3 Mr George Roberts, one of the earliest and most highly respected residents of Springmount, passed on Monday night last. The deceased arrived in the district many years ago, and in addition to being a storekeeper he carried on farming pursuits, also keeping the post office at Springmount. He suffered with illness some time ago, and was an inmate of the Creswick Hospital, but recovered to some extent. However about a fortnight ago he was again admitted to the hospital, and despite every care and attention passed away as stated above, at the ripe old age of 79 years. For a great number of years the late Mr Roberts was an earnest worker in conlion (sic?) with the Methodist Church. His wife predeceased him, passing away in October, 1915. A grown-up family is left to mourn their loss, and they have the sympathy of a very wide circle of friends in their sad bereavement. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, the remains being interred in the Creswick Cemetery. There was a large attendance of friends of the deceased and the family. The coffin-bearers were Messrs. Joseph, Albert and Ernest Roberts and Wm. Quick. The pall-bearers were Dr. T. A. Wilson, Messrs W. P. Northcott, A. Stewart, J. C. Thomas, N. Quick, G. May, S. Mason and J. Orange. The Rev. A. McKay officiated at the house and grave side. Messrs A. Pasco and Sons were the undertakers. (Transcription provided by Meg Bate) ![]() ![]()
