Cornelius ROWE Obituary
The Creswick Advertiser, Wednesday 24 May 1893
Another old identity in the person of Mr Cornelius Rowe died at his residence Bridge-street, about 4 o'clock yesterday morning. Deceased, who had been ill for about fifteen months, suffered from indigestion, and for about six months he had been attended by Dr Lindsay. A few months ago, when the influenza was prevalent in this district, he suffered a severe attack, from which he never properly recovered, and this rendered his illness doubly trying.
Deceased was an American, and no one was more proud of the land of his birth than he. Most of his friends in America are still living, and are in very comfortable circumstances. He came to Creswick in 1854, and imbued with desire to quickly amass a fortune, started mining operations at the Black Lead. It would appear that he was not too successful in this direction, for shortly afterwards he opened business with Mr S Paull as cordial manufacturers. About 12 months later Mr Paull removed to Castlemaine, and the deceased afterwards carried on the business by himself. He was 66 years of age, and was of a hardy and cheerful disposition. He leaves a widow and 11 children, the youngest being 12 years of age. The funeral is appointed to take place to-morrow afternoon at 3 o'clock.
