Annie Elizabeth WHADCOAT went to Germany to study music. There she met and married Heinrich Julius Adolph Ernest ENGELS on 22 Feb 1906 and spent most of her life in Germany. After her husband died Annie Elizabeth ENGELS came out to Australia to visit her brother Alex Whadcoat at Bairnsdale, Gippsland, Victoria. She died at Bairnsdale on 5 Jan 1960 aged 77 yrs and is buried in the Bairnsdale Cemetery. Her obituary mentions three adult children left in Germany, 2 daughters and a son. (Judy Liss) These were Margaret, Amy and Ernest. (John Anderson) In the will of Amy Sherwell made in 1974, she refers to Bessie as her 'half-sister'. (Will held by DCB) Pure speculation but Bessie's father may not have been JHW although he signed as father at the weddings of both Bessie and Amy. (John Anderson)
