Pte 12952 Adam Pringle BURRELL 103rd Company, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry) of the Gordon Highlanders, died 1 Jul 1916 aged 20 yrs Ovillers, Somme, France, commemorated on a WW1 stone plaque in Oxton Memorial Hall, Berwick. His name is also on the memorial at Polmont.
Adam Pringle Burrell joined the Gordon Highlanders in 1914 aged 18. He was wounded in 1915 and sent home. His family asked him to stay but he returned to France only to be sent home again with shellshock. He returned to France in 1916 and was re-assigned to the Machine Gun Corps as a Lewis Gunner. He was listed as missing on 1st July 1916. We never knew where he was buried until around 1995 when one of our relatives contacted the War Graves Commission. A few of the family have been to his grave. I haven't been yet but I will. (Iain Jamieson)
