CORBETT arrived Victoria 1841
Three CORBETT brothers arrived at Port Phillip on 30 Nov 1841 on the barque Alan Ker. This was the spelling used on the shipping papers. Based on the west coast of Scotland, Alan Ker & Company was a large shipping firm which traded to Canada and America. They also engaged in ship building. The Alan Ker was a ship of 493 tons, built in 1836 in Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada and sheathed in yellow metal in 1841. She sailed from Greenoch on the Firth of Clyde with Master Archibald McKechnie on 11 Aug 1841 with the following Bounty Immigrants: 44 families consisting of 167 souls, 50 unmarried males and 26 unmarried females. A Bounty of £19 was paid for each adult and £10 or £5 for children according to their age. Eleven immigrants (8m, 3f) paid their own passage. The authority to convey these Bounty Passengers to the Port Phillip District of the Colony of New South Wales was dated 12 March 1840.
